OVC Care and Support Programme

Orphaned Vulnerable Children (OVC’s), are those children who have either been totally or partially orphaned and are living with other family members, friends of the family, or in some cases are even running the household on their own.  In an atmosphere of such grinding poverty, all children in the District are in desperate need of help and the added threats to these children are obvious.  In Kayunga there is now even the possibility of being kidnapped for child sacrifice, something that has occurred in the District.  This has put a real fear in the community, adding to the debilitating problems that poverty presents to every day life.

Our survey sample showed that at 44%, almost half the children living in the area are OVC’s.

Under the care and support programme, BUVAD currently supports 10 OVC’s with school fees, scholastic materials, beddings and food.  We intend to raise that number in the near future and BUVAD wishes to begin distributing mosquito nets to all children in the area.

BUVAD is seeking short-term volunteers who would be interested in setting up and implementing workshops teaching child rights protection to educate the community in Kayunga Sub County on avoiding child abuse and promoting child social welfare.

Financial support of an OVC is very straightforward.  Please see our donation page for ways you can easily help an OVC in the area at minimal cost.
