BUVAD Radio talk show on innovative technology of constructing cost affordable structures using waste plastic water bottles as cost free bricks plus celebrating the world toilet day the scientifically.

BUVAD under the resource mobilization change project supported by GIZ and European Union (EU) under Civil Society in Uganda Support Programme (CUSP) has conducted  4 Radio talk shows to promote BUVAD’s innovative technology of constructing cost affordable structures like rain water harvesting tanks, toilets and houses using waste plastic water bottles as cost free bricks and also re-emphasize the upholding of new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) at water sources, rehearsing the general Ministry of Health preventive measures against the spread of COVID-19 and letting people know more about what BUVAD does in Kayunga District.

BUVAD has also had one radio talk show on 19th Nov 2020 celebrating and informing the people of Kayunga about the world toilet day

The key talking points were about the effects of waste plastic bottles to our environment in Kayunga like;

  1. Waste plastic bottles polluting the environment when we burn them
  2. Waste plastic bottles suffocating the soils and how they have affected agro yields which has reduced so much on our income per capita in Kayunga.
  3. Waste plastic bottles blocking water channels
  4. Waste plastic bottles offering breading grounds for mosquitos
  5. Waste plastic bottles sometimes acting as a medium of disease transmission leading to dangerous diseases spread like typhoid etc

The key talking points concerning the world toilet day were

  • Talking about the theme of this year’s world toilet day which is Sustainable sanitation and climate change
  • Sharing on how climate change is threatening sanitation systems
  • Talking of how toilets protect our health like against COVID-19 spread and how toilets have helped fight against climate change.

During the talk shows we also talked about the other projects that BUVAD offers in Kayunga District, which include;

  1. Rural Safe Water Supply

2. HIV/AIDs prevention and Care

3. Educational Support and Care for OVCs

4. Environmental conservation through upcycling waste plastic bottles to innovatively build rainwater harvesting tanks, toilets and houses as a strategy to control waste plastic bottles accumulation control

5. Women Empowerment

6. Hand washing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 goes hand in hand with the project of Water Sanitation and Hygiene which BUVAD co-supports alongside the government efforts to bring safe clean water closer to its people and ensuring good health
